Hi, I'm jade and I've been touching computers for quite some time.I've written my first bits of HTML all the way back in 2012 and am taking care of my own silly little infrastructure since 2021.
I enjoy exchanging and collaborating on tech topics.
A selection of technologies I've been using:
Bash Linux (Debian, Arch) Containers (Docker & docker-compose) nginx DNS (incl. arpa & IPv6) TLS / Let's Encrypt HTML CSS JavaScript Git Skill: easily adapting to new-to-me programming languages
My current volunteer work experiences
- since 10-2021: taking care of some self-hosted stuff, under the name of Infrastructure as a Shitpost
- skills used and learned during this: self-hosting things; containerisation (in the form of Docker); reverse-proxying some hosted services (via nginx); writing proper documentation for said things, mainly intended for myself; moderation of communities
-
a selection of currently hosted things:
- Authentik (a way to set up Single Sign-On across multiple services with the same identity, written mainly in Python and TypeScript)
- GoToSocial (a Fediverse instance/server written in Go)
- HedgeDoc (a collaborative markdown editor)
- Immich (a way to have my camera roll outside of Google's and Apple's hands while still keeping it accessible for myself on the go)
- Miniflux (a RSS reader)
- Owncast (a platform for myself to stream on, outside of Twitch and YouTube)
- The Lounge (an IRC bouncer and web client)
- Vaultwarden (a password vault and manager)
- contributing to some open-source projects
- BashTube, an alternative YouTube frontend hacked together and written in Bash, as shown briefly on the left in a GPN22 talk
- GoToSocial, a Fediverse server written in Go (smaller bugfixes and theme contributions count, right? …right?)
- I also am maintaining a patchset for my Fediverse instance, gts.apicrim.es
My previous volunteering experiences
- 12-2024: Helping out here and there at a big conference - specifically, volunteering in some spots throughout the 38th Chaos Communication Congress, especially in the NOC team by the end
My previous work experiences
- Internships — so far all two weeks long each
- in 2018: a hardware store (toom, Einzelhandel)
- 12-2019: an electronics store (Conrad, Einzelhandel)
- sometime in mid-2022: a computer repair shop (dercomputerladen Dresden, partially still Einzelhandel but also taking a look at customers' computers and fixing them, while also getting more insight on tools one can use for this)
-
Other forms of experiences
- two "Berufsvorbereitende Bildungsmaßnahmen" — a proper 9-month-long one in 2021-2022, and a very shortlived one in 2022, respectively
- proper jobs: none… yet. are you interested in changing that? send me an email!
My education:
- 2021: got my Realschulabschluss (around 2.93) at a Oberschule in Germany
Language skills:
- English (native-like) and German (native)
